Plan fee plus the cut on top
For each app we take the cheapest plan that covers your volume, then add its transaction fee at your revenue and order count. Flat-fee apps (Appstle, Seal, Propel, Recurpay and the native Shopify app) add nothing on top. Percentage-fee apps (PayWhirl, Loop, Recharge, Bold, Skio, Smartrr, Subify, Awtomic) add their cut, and Recharge and Skio add per-order cents too. Seal is priced by active subscription count, so it uses your order figure. Stay AI is enterprise and does not publish pricing, so it is listed but not ranked. Standard Shopify payment-processing fees apply to every option equally and are left out.

Which Shopify subscription apps have no transaction fees?
Shopify Subscriptions (native), Appstle, Seal, Propel and Recurpay charge a flat fee with 0% on top. Utterbond is 0% on its paid plans, though its free plan is 2%. PayWhirl, Loop, Recharge, Bold, Skio, Smartrr, Subify and Awtomic all take a percentage of subscription revenue on top of the plan fee.
Why can I not just compare the App Store sticker prices?
Because the sticker price is only the plan fee. An app at $99 a month with no cut can cost less than a $25 app that also takes 1.49% of your revenue plus 19 cents an order. This calculator adds the fee on top at your volume so the totals are comparable.
Which subscription app is cheapest for a small store?
For a small store, the native Shopify Subscriptions app is free, and flat-fee apps like Recurpay ($9), Propel ($9) and Appstle ($10 to $30) stay cheap because they take no cut. Percentage-fee apps get more expensive as subscription revenue grows.
Is the cheapest subscription app always the right choice?
